Choosing between classic, hybrid, and volume lash styles can be confusing!
Lash styles are forever changing, but I’m a firm believer in finding a style that suits your eyes and desired look and not necessarily following trends.
I was introduced to the lash industry when I trained with Xtreme Lashes in 2016 and I’ve been lashing ever since.
Now lashes are broken down into 3 popular styles: classic, volume, and hybrid. All have different lengths, thickness, and curls.
Classic lashes are the OG. A standard 1:1, think one lash extension per natural lash. It’s a natural style best for first timers and everyday wear. For someone who prefers a style that looks like your lashes with mascara. Classic lashes are subtle but make a noticeable difference.
Volume lashes are the total opposite of classic. To keep it simple, it’s a lash split 3 or 4 ways sometimes even more to create something called a lash fan. You apply multiple fans to achieve a bold fluffy glam look. I find people who usually wear makeup daily and love a noticeable dramatic look, this is your style.
Hybrid is a mix of classic and volume. Not natural nor bold, so you get the fullness without being over the top. Since it’s a mix you can create a beautiful wispy set with good balance. I find this is the go to for experienced lash wearers who like their lashes to standout, but also appropriate for everyday.
You should also consider eye shape when selecting your style.
Round eyes: cat eye (elongated ends) or wispy (mix of long and short lengths)
Almond eyes: flattering with any style
Hooded eyes: avoid volume because it can look heavy, but consider longer lengths in center for a lift
Monopod eye (no crease, flat lid): longer lengths with more curl makes the eyes appear open and more awake
When discussing lash extensions and finding the right style it's also important you consider the health of your lashes and the maintenance.
If you have seen my work, majority of the time no matter the style I do my best to keep some sets light. I will never apply more than what your lashes can handle. Even though the weight of a single lash or fan is very very light, when you are applying multiple extensions you have to consider how much weight your natural lashes can hold. Also, if lash extensions are too heavy for your natural lashes they will fall off quickly.
Lash extensions are gorgeous but they have to be properly cared for and maintained. I recommend lash fills every 2-3 weeks to replace any lashes that have shed and refresh the ones still in place. Without regular fill appointments lashes will become uneven and sparse, causing extensions to naturally shed over time.
Cleaning them daily is also very important. Your skin and eyelids naturally produce oil which breaks down the adhesive causing them to fall off quicker. Daily cleansing keeps the hair follicle clean and free of build up.
If you have been considering lash extensions but still not sure what style, I would recommend a consultation to further discuss and find the perfect lash set for your eyes and lifestyle. But just a warning, you may get hooked on them!
Lash you later :)
